2014/15 Collector St Improvements

Ames, Iowa
Project Overview

The West Street and Woodland Street project was part of the City of Ames’ Collector Street Pavement Improvements program, which addressed rehabilitation and reconstruction of the city’s collector streets. This project included removal and replacement of West Street, from Hillcrest Avenue to Sheldon Avenue, and Woodland Street, from Forest Glen Street to West Street.

To complete the design, CDA developed a construction schedule and staging plan sensitive to ISU traffic, adjacent businesses, and residences, and reviewed television inspection reports for the condition of sanitary and storm sewer facilities in the corridor to recommend replacements. The project also incorporated streetscape elements at business locations fronting West Street, addressed traffic conflicts with CyRide routes and bus stops, and required close communication with adjacent right-of-way users and property owners.

CDA provided topographic and boundary survey, preliminary and final design, construction cost estimating, acquisition plat preparation, coordination with utility companies, and DNR permitting.
