The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is a state-of-the-art facility providing comprehensive care for animals both large and small. Since 1926, the ARL has helped more than 1 million pets in need, and by the end of 2023, it had saved over 12,000 lives. The ARL serves people and pets across Iowa through programs such as pet adoption, humane education, pet behavior training, spay/neuter services, animal cruelty intervention, and more.
Civil Design Advantage played a crucial role in the $14 million project, handling preliminary and final site design. Key amenities include a 42,000-square-foot main facility, a large animal barn, parking and loading areas, and enhanced landscape and hardscape designs. Sustainable practices, such as soil amendments and native/wildflower plantings, were incorporated into the project, which also involved collaboration with Iowa Master Gardeners to further enhance the landscape design.
Construction drawings were developed to ensure the existing facility could remain operational during the construction of the new facility. Civil Design Advantage’s services extended to preparing a storm water management plan, overseeing construction administration, and conducting construction observation.
