CDA provided preliminary and final design services for the urbanization of 3,900 lineal feet of existing rural, four-lane divided roadway along Douglas Avenue between 100th Street and North Walnut Creek. Improvements included adding curb sections to the existing pavement, filling existing drainage ditches, full-depth patching evaluation, and an HMA overlay for the westbound lanes.
A Stormwater Management Plan was prepared to prevent ponding in remaining drainage channels from encroaching onto private property and to ensure proposed intake placement maintained gutter spread within design standards. A complex phasing and staging plan was developed to always keep one lane of traffic open while maintaining access to side streets through construction.
The project also incorporated the City’s Complete Streets Master Plan, adding a combined 10-foot HMA trail and 5-foot PCC sidewalk along the north side of the corridor. Additional services included acquisition plat preparation, utility coordination, DNR permitting, and IDOT coordination.
