Civil Design Advantage provided preliminary and final site design for a new 16,500 SF public safety building in Grimes, Iowa. The new building houses Grimes Fire Department and includes office space for Polk County Sheriff’s Department. The site consists of 3.7 acres and is located South of SW County Line Road and West 1st Street intersection. The location was selected with future growth of the City in mind. CDA assisted with the analysis that factored in response times and other station locations to help the City determine the best location for the station.
Improvements for the site include parking areas on both the east and west side of the building, four bays to allow pull-through access for fire apparatus and ambulance. Stormwater management for the site was handled in an above ground detention basin. Landscaping for the site included plants native to Iowa and those that would complement the building’s architecture while providing form and function with the detention basin. In addition to design and engineering services, CDA provided construction administration and observation.
