Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Lion Conservation Center at Blank Park Zoo

CDA Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Marjorie A. Foster Lion Conservation Center

Civil Design Advantage was proud to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Marjorie A. Foster Lion Conservation Center at the Blank Park Zoo on Tuesday, May 20. This exciting project will significantly expand the zoo’s capacity for lion care, with the new exhibit space more than tripling the size of the current enclosure.

Expanded Space and Immersive Design for Lion Conservation Center at the Blank Park Zoo

The upgraded exhibit will feature expanded areas for the lions and offer an immersive guest experience, including three viewing areas with floor-to-ceiling glass, heated rocks to keep the lions warm in cooler months, and elevated spaces such as a pride rock feature that gives the lions greater visibility of nearby exhibits. Visitors will enjoy enhanced opportunities for photography and up-close, nose-to-nose interaction with the lions through improved sightlines and proximity.

The new complex will not only increase the zoo’s capacity to house lions but will also allow for greater flexibility for both the animals and zookeepers. Behind-the-scenes improvements include updated holding areas, stalls, and training facilities to support animal welfare and conservation efforts.

Construction is expected to be completed by next summer. Civil Design Advantage is proud to provide civil engineering services for this impactful project and looks forward to seeing the new exhibit come to life.
