Master planning, surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture design for a Ignit Johnston sports facility on approximately 24 acres of land in Johnston, Iowa. Upon final completion, the facility will consist of over 200,000 square feet of indoor sports space, as well as exterior synthetic turf baseball, soccer, and football fields. In addition to the sports and recreation facilities, the site will host a bar/restaurant, and an adjacent retail building.
Site amenities include two large promenade areas for special events and gatherings, featuring decorative and colored hardscape treatments, strategic landscape plantings, multi-purpose trails, and parking areas. Within the promenade areas, large jumbotrons on the exterior of the buildings will showcase special sporting events or other recreational happenings.
The project also includes collaborative design work with the city of Johnston for the development of adjacent support parking lots, regional storm water retention, and a future city park. The future city park will feature additional soccer fields, a cricket field, and traditional play equipment.
As the site was developed within a floodplain, CDA worked closely with an environmental engineer to permit almost 18 feet of fill placement to raise the site above the floodplain, as well as to permit nearly 5 acres of wetland mitigation. Services also include site plan submittals to the city of Johnston, construction administration, and construction observation.
Information about the progress of the project can be found here.
