CDA provided preliminary and final site design for a new 5,900 SF satellite fire station in Johnston, Iowa. The new building will house 10 Fire Department employees, as well as provide access and meeting space for the Police Department. The site consists of 3.6 acres of land and is adjacent to single family residential development.
Improvements for the site include pull-through access for fire apparatus, visitor and employee parking areas, and open space for training. Storm water management for the site included low-impact strategies, including bio-retention basins. Additionally, landscaping for the site included plants native to Iowa and those that would complement the building’s architecture while providing form and function with the bio-retention basins.
In addition to design and engineering services, CDA provided construction administration and observation. This project has been LEED certified, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification is a globally recognized framework that recognizes buildings and communities that meet certain standards for sustainability and energy efficiency.
