Situated within a growing neighborhood in West Des Moines, Whisper Point Park occupies 3.2-acres of previously undeveloped land. Surrounded by single-family homes on three sides and bordered by wooden green space on the west, the park offers a peaceful escape. Its amenities include separate play areas for different age groups, two small shelters, ample parking, a versatile multi-use court, and a modular restroom facility equipped with a grinder pump for sanitary sewer connection.
Integral to CDA’s design process was the facilitation of two public meetings, where neighbors’ input played a central role. The resulting plan prioritized preserving residents’ views of the surrounding greenery and mitigating light pollution, while also incorporating separate shelter and restroom facilities, age-specific play areas, and establishing connections to upcoming trail expansions in the vicinity. Storm water detention was already provided with the development of the single family subdivision, but the design provides a water quality basin to capture and infiltrate the majority of the site-generated runoff.
