Olde Town Altoona – The Plaza Project

Revitalizing Olde Town Altoona

Exciting things are happening in Altoona’s historic Olde Town district! As part of an ongoing revitalization effort, the City is transforming a former retail space into a community-focused plaza that enhances accessibility and strengthens the connection between Olde Town and the Vern Willey II Bike Trail.

What’s included in the Plaza?
The Plaza will feature:

  • A paved plaza space for public gatherings
  • Ramp & handrail system for accessibility
  • Fencing and a freestanding wall for structure and design

This project will help strengthen the connection between Olde Town and the Vern Willey II Bike Trail, making the area even more bike and pedestrian-friendly.

‘Altus’ Mural located on the east side of Borseth Law Office Building

A Mural that Celebrates Altoona’s Past, Present, and Future

One of the most exciting elements of this site is the ‘Altus’ mural, painted by artist Mila Sketch. This massive, colorful mural covers the east side of the Borseth Law Office building and showcases nearly 40 historic and cultural landmarks that make up Altoona’s identity.

As the city moves forward with accepting bids (due February 26th), we look forward to seeing this vision become reality. Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses! More information about the bid can be found here.

Another CDA project in the area is the commercial property across the street that houses SkinFusion FX – a boutique medspa, read more about the project here.
