CDA provided preliminary and final site design for a new 96,568-SF elementary school in Ankeny, Iowa. Abbie Grove Elementary School accommodates grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The site consists of 15.23-acres of land within northwest Ankeny off the newly extended NW 18th street.
Improvements for the site include primary access to the site off NW Spruce Drive with a full access point. Bus drop off and pick up is off of NW 18th Street. Main parking lot is located on the west side of the school with 26 additional spaces provided north off the bus loop. Large playground and grass space is designed to the south with room for future playground expansion and a fire department access. Storm water detention is primarily provided off-site within an existing basin, but a portion of detention is provided on-site along the southern property line, a basin in the northeast corner of the property, and a basin in the northwest corner of the property.
Other proposed improvements to the site included site utilities, sidewalks (both internal and within public Right of Way), and landscape design. The project required coordination between the district and the city for newly constructed NW 18th Street.
In addition to design and engineering services, CDA provided construction administration, construction observation, and staking services.
