PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Bob Layton Trail is a 12-foot PCC trail located in western Urbandale, extending from Douglas Parkway to Aurora Avenue, where it connects with another trail. It continues north to Meredith Drive, ending at the tie-in location on the south side of Meredith Drive. Spanning over 7,000 feet, the trail offers a scenic route through Walnut Creek Regional Park.

The project involved designing a roadway connection through Walnut Creek Regional Park that links Douglas Parkway to Meredith Drive. Starting from the full access point just east of the current bridge at Douglas Parkway, the connection traverses private property to reach the park. We coordinated the alignment of the roadway with that of the trail to ensure seamless integration. CDA also incorporated several parking areas along the road within the park for added convenience.

We secured funding for engineering services through city bond funds, while the construction of the trail was financed with a combination of STP and City bond funds.
