PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The CDA Enhancement Plan for Buxton Park, established in 1905 and known as the oldest park in the City of Indianola, outlines a comprehensive strategy to enrich the park’s offerings and elevate the visitor experience. Because this historic park has long been a cherished space for both residents and visitors, the plan seeks to build on this legacy by introducing thoughtful improvements and new amenities.

The plan outlines implementation of suitable placements for additional plantings, gardens, features, furnishings, walkways, art installations, and other enhancements. By strategically adding these elements, the plan aims to attract a greater number of visitors, thereby solidifying Buxton Park’s role as a hub for community horticultural appreciation, outdoor recreation, and educational activities.

Key proposed additions include a small roundabout, which is designed to accentuate the park’s entry and main core. Furthermore, the plan includes an enlarged gazebo to accommodate more visitors, as well as expanded paved areas for improved accessibility. Additionally, designated spots for memorials will offer spaces for reflection, while the creation of a children’s maze made of ornamental grasses will add a playful element to the park. Ultimately, the plan seeks to foster a distinct identity for Buxton Park, ensuring it remains a unique and cherished community asset, separate from its association with Simpson College.
