PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Civil Design Advantage served as the lead civil engineer for the Gray’s Station Pedestrian Bridge, a key connection for pedestrians and cyclists spanning the Raccoon River near downtown Des Moines. The bridge, measuring 425 feet with three spans, links new residential neighborhoods to Gray’s Lake. On the south side, a handicap-accessible ramp connects the bridge to the Gray’s Lake, Kruidenier, and Meredith trails, enhancing accessibility for all users. The bridge is equipped with programmable LED lighting, offering a variety of lighting schemes to create a unique pedestrian experience. Additionally, the design includes enhanced rails, cabling, and a spacious platform that provides stunning views of Gray’s Lake and the downtown skyline. This $4 million project, featuring clear spans of up to 170 feet, was completed and opened to the public in October 2019, adding a significant architectural and recreational feature to the area.

You can view the bridge and its dynamic LED lighting schemes in the video linked here.
